Red Chilli Powder & Whole Chilli — Export Grades

India’s #1 spice export — 27% of the country’s entire spice export value. We supply three distinct grade families, each with its own ASTA colour value, SHU heat level, and COA. Every lot is Sudan-dye-clean and aflatoxin-clean, documented at a NABL-accredited laboratory before shipment.

Full specification — what every COA shows

Every lot is tested at a NABL-accredited laboratory before shipment. The COA travels with the goods and is available before the shipment is released.

Why chilli is the most-tested spice: Red chilli is the world’s most adulterated spice — Sudan dye (Group 3 carcinogen), lead chromate, and aflatoxin are the three recall triggers. Our COA explicitly states “Not detected” on all three, with the test method. A bare “chilli powder $X” quote without ASTA + SHU + Sudan + aflatoxin numbers is an amateur quote — we don’t send those.

Buyer FAQ
What is the difference between Sannam, Teja and Byadgi?

Sannam 334 is the workhorse export grade — moderate heat (SHU 25-35k), moderate colour (ASTA 30-50), widely available, and what most food processors and masala blenders globally specify. Teja S17 is a high-heat variety (SHU 75-100k) used by capsaicin-extraction plants and markets that demand very hot chilli. Byadgi Dabbi is a low-heat, very-high-colour variety (ASTA 150-200) — it is the source material for paprika oleoresin (natural food colour E160c) used in sausages, snacks, cosmetics and lipstick. If you are unsure which grade fits your application, tell us your use-case and we will recommend.

Can I specify my own ASTA and SHU target?

Yes. We quote to your spec — ASTA value, SHU range, moisture, mesh, and packing. For example, if you need ASTA >= 60 with SHU 30,000-40,000, we source and test to that. Confirmation of the exact lot values appears on the COA we send before payment.

How do I know the Sudan dye test is genuine?

The COA is issued by a NABL-accredited laboratory (Choksi Laboratories, Indore; or SGS / Eurofins for international attestation). NABL is the Indian equivalent of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. The report carries the lab NABL accreditation number, analyst signature, and lot reference number. We share the full report, not a summary.

What is the minimum order for a first shipment?

We can ship from 1 pallet (LCL, ~500 kg) for a first commercial order. A free sample (500 g-2 kg) with its COA comes before that — you pay only the courier cost. Full container (FCL, ~17-18 MT in 25 kg bags) is available from a second order or if you are confident in the grade from the sample.

Why clean-COA matters more on chilli than any other spice

Red chilli is the world’s most adulterated spice. Our COA is the answer.

The MDH/Everest EtO crisis of 2024, recurring Sudan dye recalls from EU and US markets, and documented aflatoxin contamination across multiple origins — all happened on chilli. We test every lot, not every batch. Every individual commercial lot gets its own reference number and COA.

The COA travels with the goods. If you need it before the letter of credit, we send it. If your market requires additional parameters, we test to your spec.

🔴 Sudan Dyes I-IV Group 3 carcinogen
Added to fake or boost red colour. The most common reason for EU/UK/US recall of chilli products. ~120 mg/kg raises ASTA by 1 unit — heavy dye is detectable.
Detection: LC-MS/MS — we test every commercial lot.
⚠️ Aflatoxin (mould toxin) Group 1 carcinogen
Produced by Aspergillus mould on damp pods during sun-drying. The #1 cause of chilli export rejection at EU border. EU limit: B1 <=5 ppb, total <=10 ppb.
Detection: HPLC / ELISA — EU limits on every lot.
🧪 EtO (ethylene oxide) 2024 recall trigger
The MDH/Everest 2024 crisis. EtO is a sterilisation chemical — not detectable by taste or smell, detected only by lab. EU MRL is 0.02 mg/kg (near zero).
Detection: GC-MS — not detected on every export lot.
🪨 Lead chromate & brick powder Toxic adulterant
Cheap red-orange pigment used to fake colour. Lead causes irreversible neurological damage. Brick powder adds grit and weight.
Detection: ICP-MS for Pb + Cr; acid-insoluble ash for grit.
